Mijas is constructed to two levels

The village itself, typically Arabic in appearance, is built like a balcony across the mountainside, its whitewashed houses contrasting sharply with the green of the pine trees, creating a picture postcard scene which is one of the coast’s most beautiful panoramas.
The beautiful white village of Mijas stands on the foothills of the Sierra Mijas and only 7 km from the sea and a 25 minute drive from Malaga airport. It is probably one of the most photographed villages in the whole Spain. The village itself dates back to pre-roman times and is steeped in history.
You only have to walk the cobbled streets and admire the remains of the Moorish fortress to understand why it is such a magical place. The area is surrounded by some of the best golf courses in the whole Spain and the restaurants and little tapas bars in the village are second to none. Mijas coast is highly related to Fuengirola, up to the point that there exist streets shared by both cities.

The Department can clarify their doubts, help resolve the problems that arise, and in all cases inform them of the steps to take when their problem is not directly connected with the Town Hall. The Department is situated inside the Mijas Town Hall in Mijas village. A staff of three work daily in the offices attending the public in six languages: Spanish, English, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and German. All the staff understands the Spanish as well as the foreign mentality, knowing generally how the bureaucratic systems work in other countries, which in many cases is fundamental to be able to resolve the problems that the foreigners have.
At present the Department attends nearly 50,000 persons annually. The majority are British, followed by Germans and Scandinavians, and a minority of French, Dutch, Belgium’s, Finish, North Americans and other nationalities.
